Indy freight broker anticipates more growth

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Fast-growing freight broker Backhaul Direct anticipates hiring over 300 more people over the next four years.

The company pairs empty freight trucks with shippers. Backhaul Direct oversaw about 30,000 shipments in 2010, an increase of 33 percent over the previous year. Greg Harris opened the company back in 2004 after leaving a similar firm in Chicago.

Current expansion plans hinge on a new software system for cargo tracking, but the company has already leased downtown space through 2017. Backhaul Direct currently employees 80 people, with only a handful currently working on the technology side.
