EPA regulations will stop cross-border trucks says Mexican trucking leader

MEXICO CITY -- Strict EPA regulations on low-emission diesel will make cross-border trucking virtually impossible according to Juan Carlos Munoz, president of the National Chamber of Trucking (Canacar), which represents 8,000 carriers in Mexico.

The DOT's proposed solution to the long-standing dispute is not being taken seriously by Mexican carriers who believe the United States will not be flexible on engine and fuel standards.

"At first glance it doesn't seem viable," said Munoz, "We (can't) ever enter the United States, at least not in the next 20 years."
