Navistar pink slips 250 at Ohio plant

SPRINGFIELD, OH -- Truck maker Navistar International Inc. layed off 250 workers on Friday due to lack of work. Production workers have been doing repairs since Sept. 27 when the last truck rolled off the line. Meanwhile, Local 402 of the United Auto Workers, whose contract expired Oct. 1, continues negotiating a new contract with company officials.

Orders for medium-duty trucks were recently moved to non-union plants in Texas and Mexico because of a feared strike. Work at the Springfield plant was suspended entirely during 2002 and 2007 union negotiations, and workers last went on strike in 2007.
