Busy U.S. 71 between Kansas City and Joplin will be officially designated Interstate 49 at ceremonies in December. MoDOT has spent $63.3 million removing at-grade crossings, building four overpasses and nine interchanges. Trucks make up 30% of traffic on the 180-mile stretch.
