Research shows link between truck accidents and driver history

ARLINGTON, VA -- A study released yesterday by the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) shows that truckers with a history of prior crashes, violations and convictions are more susceptible to being involved in future truck crashes than their peers with clean driving records.

The analyses draws upon data from 582,772 U.S. truck drivers over a two-year time frame to expose a dozen driver behaviors that raise a driver's risk of being involved in a truck crash by more than 50 percent.

ATRI is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit research organization belonging to the American Trucking Associations (ATA).
