Trucker hauling Capitol Christmas tree from Wyoming via hometown in Georgia

DAHLONEGA, GA -- A small town in north Georgia, made famous by a 19th century gold rush, awaits the arrival of the nation's Capitol Christmas tree which will pass through Nov. 24-26 on its way to Washington, D.C.

40-year-old driver Jeff Underwood volunteered for the task, his company providing trucks at no charge, with another donating fuel. He negotiated to make sure he could bring the tree through his hometown.

The Engelmann spruce was felled in western Wyoming's Bridger-Teton National Forest and loaded on a 81-foot-long double flatbed. The tree is protected by a hard cover, with Plexiglas windows across the sides for viewing.
