One-third of trucks on I-10 unfit for the road

BANNING, CA -- An investigation conducted by The Desert Sun reveals that one in three vehicles inspected at the Banning, California weigh scale on westbound I-10 are sidelined for violations so egregious to make them unfit for the road. The facility is the main hub for commercial traffic heading into and out of southern California.

A spokesman for the California Trucking Association noted the low traffic count for the first nine months of this year, indicative of harsh economic conditions.

Some drivers express relief when violations are found and welcome citations to force their carriers to fix problems.
