BLS reports trucking jobs fell in September

PASEDENA, CA -- The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) claims that trucking jobs have fallen off after six months of steady growth, a statistic seemingly in conflict with the number of job postings found on various online boards and newspaper classifieds. According the TruckingCrossing, an online aggregator of truck driving jobs, 17,000 openings are available nationwide.

The total number of truckers and other employees of freight companies fell by one percent on a month-to-month basis. The trucking industry saw some growth in February which continued till August. The temporary surge added a little over six percent to the workforce.

“Demand for long haul truckers is still pretty strong.” says CEO Harrison Barnes of TruckingCrossing.
