Illinois trooper struck, killed by semi truck

An Illinois motorcycle trooper was struck and killed during a traffic stop yesterday morning along Interstate 55 by a passing tractor-trailer. Kyle Deatherage, 32, a trooper since 2009, was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred near Litchfield, about 55 northeast of St. Louis, near mile marker 62 in the northbound lanes. There was no immediate word of charges against the truck driver.
