According to the ATA, the shortage of truck drivers is between 20,000 to 30,000, and the difficulty in finding drivers may be the high cost of training. Most trucking companies prefer hiring experienced drivers, but some are reluctantly opening their own driving schools. The industry added over 46,000 jobs this past year.
