Busy Delaware Route 1 rest stop installs truck plug-ins

"SMYRNA -- Hoping to clear the air and save commercial drivers some green at one of the state's busier truck stops, state officials have switched on 24 big rig plug-in sites at the Smyrna Rest Area along Del. 1 and U.S. 13.

The $547,530 "electrification facility," paid for with federal Recovery Act funds, gives truck drivers access to drive-up stations that can supply low-priced power, heating, cooling, television cable and internet service for their cabs while parked for long periods. It also makes it easier to comply with a state ban on idling of parked trucks and buses."
