10% of truckers on Mexican roads robbed

MEXICO CITY -- 10% of commercial trucks traveling in Mexico are robbed and violence is used in 92.5% of the incidents, according to a security company report provided to Europeon Photopress Agency.

"82% of such offenses are committed by ordinary criminals, and it was found that only 0.6% are linked to kidnapping gangs", said Alejandro Desfassiaux, president of Multisystem Group Industrial Security (MGUS).

The majority of thefts occur on non-toll roads in the Federal District, followed by the states of Mexico, Puebla and Veracruz. These areas of Mexico are sometimes called by drivers "The Bermuda Triangle."
