A Marine veteran, Smith was married with three children. He lived in Irondale, Mo. and worked for E&K Truck Service Inc. of St. Clair, Mo.
Police say the suspect is a black male wearing a red ball cap, a white T-shirt, dark pants and white tennis shoes. A single shell casing was found at the scene.
