COLUMBUS, IN -- Despite slow economic recovery, factors point toward higer demand for new Class 8 trucks in the upcoming year.
ACT Research's latest study cautions that heavy-duty truck demand is still below normal replacement, but good profitability in the industry, combined with aging fleets, are indicators of continual improvement. Total production of new heavy-duty trucks should total-up to 150,000 by year's end and increase to 300,000 in 2012.
The same study forecasts poorer demand for Class 5-7 medium-duty trucks as construction and housing sectors struggle over the next two years.
