Legislation will create new DOT office, increase jobs and diesel fuel taxes

Richardson
WASHINGTON DC--Legislation introduced Wednesday by Rep. Laura Richardson, D.-Calif., will create a new Office of Freight Policy in the U.S. Department of Transportation.

According to Richardson, The Freight FOCUS Act of 2010 will result in a more efficient flow of goods across the nation, reducing bottlenecks while creating jobs.

The bill also includes an increase in the tax on diesel fuel. According to a recent LandLine article, that increase could be a whopping 12 cents per gallon.

The American Trucking Associations (ATA) has thrown its support behind the act.
